COMMUNICATING WITH NIHS

At Norwood International High School we value our partnerships with families and recognise that these positive connections support students to flourish in their learning. Research clearly demonstrates that when schools and families work collaboratively to support young people, their level of success is enhanced as is their well-being.

We maintain that effective communication and sharing of information is essential for successful partnerships and have a number of ways to facilitate this process.

Phone Calls
Parents are encouraged to contact teachers, Learning Community Leaders (LCL), Learning Area Leaders or Support Services over any issues of concern. If staff are unavailable at the time, they will return calls as soon as convenient.
The school number is 8364 2299.

As staff often need to contact parents by phone, up-to-date contact details are essential. Please email Student Services if any contact details change dl.0787.studentservices@schools.sa.edu.au

SMS
Parents/caregivers/homestays are contacted for school events and absentee information by SMS.
If a student is going to be absent or late please send an SMS to 0429 608 617 with the student’s name, year level and reason for absence.

SchoolStar
SchoolStar is a school communication app that is used for messaging and news, available on both Apple and Android devices.

NMHS families will receive general communications from the school through the SchoolStar news feed. The app is secure, and is only accessible by parents/caregivers/homestays who have provided the school with a current mobile number.

SchoolStar provides a Facebook style news feed to simplify the information you receive that can be customized to the needs of the user. There are over 90 languages which can be selected to receive your news feeds for ease of communication.

If you have any issues accessing SchoolStar, please email your name and your student’s name to dl.0787.parentportal@schools.sa.edu.au
Letters for the whole school community are published on the school website (on the page of the event it relates to).

Parent Portal
Daymap is the school’s web‐based Learner Management System. The system enables staff, students and parents to access to a range of functions including timetables, attendance and absence details, lesson information, messaging, homework and assignment details.

The module that parents/caregivers/homestays access – Parent Portal ‐ is a secure system and access requires a unique username and password. Information on how to access Parent Portal is on the school’s website.

We encourage all parents/caregivers/homestays to access Parent Portal on a weekly basis to monitor their child’s progress and specifically:
