8STEM Orion Space Project

Students began the testing phase of the Orion Space Project in the 8 STEM class, where they designed and tested their heat shields under the simulated harsh environment of space.

The models were built over a scaled template of the Orion crew module designed by NASA and were tested under the simulated cold of space (submersed in liquid nitrogen), the vacuum of space (large vacuum chamber) and then re-entry into the earth’s atmosphere and the extreme heat that occurs as a result.

The 8STEM students are now working on their pitches to a board of executives next week where they will attempt to secure the highest amount of investment from the board in order to walk away with the greatest profit, earn a custom trophy and attend the Annual Space Forum later this year, we can’t wait to see the outcome.
