A Return to the Track | Pedal Prix 2022

On Saturday the 14th of May the Norwood International Pedal Prix Team took to the track for the first time in 2022, and for the first time as Norwood International High School. The weekend saw many highlights, starting with our largest participation ever at a Pedal Prix event seeing 45 students take to the track during the 6-hour race across our 6 teams. 16 students from years 7 to 10 took up the challenge for the first time.

This weekend's event took place on the 3.41km "Western Circuit" at The Bend Motorsport Park near Tailem Bend. An exceptionally undulating circuit with sweeping corners challenged the rider's fitness and endurance while ensuring they developed an understanding of race craft to guide the trike around the corner smoothly and safely. Over the six hours, our teams traveled over 1196km with teams averaging between 20 and 50km/h. All teams and riders gave their all with many individual stand-out performances across all teams.

Our Senior girl's team was the standout performers, with an exceptional first ride by Summer (also taking the fastest lap in the All-Female Category averaging 49km/h) the girls came FIRST in the Senior School - All Female Category and 8th in the Senior School Category overall with 67 laps. A spectacular race by Summer, Erika , Sofia, Tamara , Samantha, and Molly.

Our Year 10 Senior School Team came in 6th (Team XP8) with a strong group climbing back up the order after a mechanical error early in the race. Team Focus made up of year 10, 11, and 12 boys stayed consistent throughout the race and held on to 7th.

Our lead Middle School Team, Astro finished in 6th position as the group of year 8/9 boys kept their cool despite an early rollover.

Team Protege made up of all new year 7 and year 8 riders performed brilliantly against much older competition, and develop as the race and each individual's stint progressed, finishing in 21st. Our Middle school girls excelled with only four riders on the day, they completed the 6 hours and finishing 4th in the Middle School - All Female category.

A very successful first outing for the Norwood International Pedal Prix Team, please congratulate all our riders and especially our Senior Girls.

A massive thank you to all the riders and parents who participated on the day, assisted with logistics, and helped run our teams.

The day couldn't have happened without Jo Hess and Kimberly O'Brien who helped make it all come together on the day.

Our next race is on Sunday the 19th of June at Victoria Park in Adelaide.
