Girls 9-Aside Football
On Wednesday 1 June, 20 NIHS girls braved the wet and windy conditions to take on several North-Eastern schools within the Girls AFL 9-aside Carnival at The Heights School.
NIHS entered teams in both the year 9-10 and year 10-12 competitions, demonstrating the growing nature of women's AFL. Both teams did an outstanding job in representing the school, with many of the girls playing above their age category in order to ensure both team's success.
Our year 9-10 team (which was made of year 8's and 9's) finished a respectable 3rd, with Emerson (year 9), Matilda (year 9) & Jemima (year 8) the standout performers.
Amazingly, our year 10-12 team (which was comprised of year 9, 10 and 11's only) only lost one of their games on their way to competition glory after an entertaining grand final. Standout performers were Grace (year 11), Lucy (year 11) and Zina (year 9) who were dominant players all day.
Further congratulations must go to Zina who has been selected to represent South Australia in the under 15's women's state team. Zina will travel to NSW in coming months to compete against other states (superstar!).
Looking forward to the boys who get their shot at glory next week (tough act to follow)!
