Mountain Bike Teams Championship - Outstanding Results!

On Friday the 6th of May, 12 keen students took up the challenge to take part in the School Sport SA MTB Championship.

The event was held at Craigburn Farm MTB trails near Blackwood in the Adelaide Hills.

The events run in a relay-style with each team (our teams had three riders), riding as smooth and fast as they can for 1 or 2 laps before changing over to the next person.

Our Junior Team of year 7s, including Leo, Seb, and Thomas were up first. With a demanding 3.21 km course including decent, jumps and rock gardens the students challenged themselves to race hard and pushed up the placings. For 2-hours the boys rotated and with a scorching last lap by Thomas they finished in 37th position - out of 91 year 7 & 8 teams competing.

In the afternoon session, our year 9 & 10 and 11 & 12 teams took to the circuit. The course was extended to 4.4km as was the level of difficulty in the obstacles, descents, and climbs. Our year 11 & 12 team of Igor, Rohan, and Alex rode hard to complete 9 laps in the 2.5-hour time limit. With two year 9 & 10 teams entered, we were hoping for some excellent results. Team 1 with Jack, Fletcher, and Mackensie pushed to come home in 24th position.

The highlight of the day goes to some incredible and determined riding by our second year 9 & 10 team of Juan, Thomas, and Oliver who showed their grit and determination, battling hard all day. After a back and forth battle with Sacred Heart and Woodcroft College the boys brought home 1st place!

An outstanding day out for Norwood International HS, and many thanks to Alicia Anson and parent helpers Troy Flower and Matthew Brinkley.
