National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) begun Friday morning. Year 11 students Riley and Madison had an early start, attending the Reconciliation Week breakfast at the Adelaide Convention Centre at 6:30am. We were able to enjoy a dance performance by Tjarutja and a wonderful performance by artist Miiesha (pictured) along side learning from a panel of elders and range of speakers.

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27th May to 3rd June. These dates follow Sorry Day, and commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey- the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision. 2022 marks the 30th anniversary for the High Court Mabo decision and this years theme is "Be Brave. Make Change".

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We at Norwood International High School have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, histories, cultures and futures.

Each Connect class has made a commitment to action to honour this week.
