Year 7 & 8 Performing Arts
Our newest performing artists at Norwood International High School have been exploring Tableau and Mime.
Tableau is the theatrical technique where participants make still images with their bodies to represent a scene. In Tableau the students need to work as actors exploring a particular story, theme or text and experiment with a variety of alternatives before they choose their final poses. Although, stillness and silence are the hallmarks of Tableau, students need to practice focus and commitment so that they pose with an expression on their faces and energy in their bodies. In these examples below, the students devised and created a play by using a series of tableaux which they performed before the class for assessment.
Mime is the theatrical technique of suggesting action, character or emotion without words using only gesture, facial expression, and movement. Simply put mime is ‘acting without words'. A mime or mime artist is someone who uses mime as a drama technique as part of a performance. For this task the students created a mime performance titled At the Movies. Students need to each have their own clear character and must show that they have transformed into another person.
Year 7 & 8 Visual Arts
This semester our Year 7 Visual Arts students have been exploring their understanding of the principles and elements of Art and Design through the creation of Elemental Explorations. Students continued their learning journey through studying Pop Artists: Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein as well as artist Wedha Abdul Rashid and his WPAP Art, a vector-based digital art form.
Our Year 8 students developed their understanding of the elements and principles of art and design through the exploration of Franz Marc and the creation of their own personal logo.
Congratulations to all of our wonderful, talented Arts students on their works for Semester 1, all of the Arts Team is looking forward to seeing your creations in Semester 2!
