North-Eastern VISTA Athletics Carnival

On Wednesday 29 March Bridgestone Athletics Stadium played host to the annual North-Eastern VISTA Athletics Carnival, where approximately 90 students gallantly represented NIHS against 7 other schools within the north-eastern zone.

The students were outstanding from start to finish on the day, both in their efforts on the track and field as well as the respectful, united manner that they conducted themselves throughout.

NIHS finished 4th in both the girls and boys combined results to take out 4th place overall (well ahead of 5th).

The school was also awarded the 'Most Improved' shield, highlighting a massive improvement in overall performance based on previous competitions.

Special mentions must go to;

  • Year 9 Girls 4x100m relay team made up of Jemima, Aida, Monique & Olivia who blitzed the opposition to take home the blue ribbon in a time of 59.03 seconds.

  • Year 10 Boys 4x100m relay team comprised of William, Anan, Ali & Shayaan who stormed in at 49.69 seconds to win their relay.

  • Specialist thrower Marek (Year 9) who took out 1st place in both the Javelin and Discus events.

  • Athletics Captains - Alex & Pippa who led from the front all day, competing in multiple events and going home with multiple ribbons.

Thanks to all staff involved on the day for your efforts, particularly Anne-Marie for your organisational expertise and Darren for your soothing vocals that bellowed out through the announcer’s microphone all day.

The team will now look forward to the SSSA State-wide School Sport event next Tuesday.
